Although there is debate about the exact origin of the drink, it is at least one hundred years old. The Italian lemon liqueur is mainly produced in Southern Italy. Traditionally, it is made from the zest of Femminello St. Teresa lemons, also known as Sorrento or Sfusato lemons. Other ingredients are water, alcohol and sugar.

The name piña colada literally means "strained pineapple", a reference to the freshly pressed and strained pineapple juice used in the drink's preparation. Two Puerto Rican bartenders contest the ownership of their national drink (1954). The piña colada is a sweet cocktail made with rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice.

Daiquirí is also the name of a beach and an iron mine near Santiago de Cuba. The drink was supposedly invented by an American mining engineer, named Jennings Cox, who was in Cuba at the time of the Spanish–American War. Through the years a lot of fruity variations are created. Basic ingredients of the Strawberry Daiquiri are: strawberries, white rum, fresh lime juice and sugar syrup.
